Although the designers set the tone for the season, fashion and style are up to the individual. If you put it on and you feel good in it, then chances are you’ll look great. If you try it on and you feel uncomfortable with yourself, then chances are you’ll look not so great. This summer’s fashions cater to the super feminine and the tomboy. Now this is more of a frequently asked question that has no frequently answered answer. People have always wondered why most male fashion designers behave like women. They seem to be so comfortable dressing up sexy women without becoming erotic. Just imagine the kind of nude models a male fashion designer will have to encounter every day. All though it is a part of the job, the experience is a little quirky, especially for men. How do they manage to do it?

This article is a frank assessment of male fashion designers. Although people may have impressions about male fashion designers, it must be said that most impressions are wrong. Most male fashion designers are through professionals who are driven by creative pursuits.

There is no way a male fashion designer could survive if he indulges in sexual abuse. Fashion is a multi-billion dollar enterprise. And most participants in fashion shows need to be as professional as professional can be. There is absolutely no time to entertain small thoughts of lust over a female body. Even if it happens, male fashion designers might use to fantasize erotic and exotic creations for these models. Any thought that comes to their mind is used for a constructive activity.

Now as to why male fashion designers act like women. Not all male fashion designers act like women. And not all male fashion designers are gay. When male fashion designers design clothes for women, they need to kick-in some feminity into their system. If they think like a man, there’s no way they are going to perceive beautiful creations and subtle colors that only the female mind detects.

3 Common Fashion Myths

There are fashion myths out there that we have all heard. Some of them are so prevalent that they may even seem like more than myths.

Sometimes, these fashion myths have been around since the dawn of fashion. Other times, they may seem like common sense, but the reality doesn’t always translate correctly. Let’s take a look at three common fashion myths.

1. You can’t wear white after Labor Day.

We’re not quite sure where this one originated, but it is certainly no longer true. In fact, many fashion lines come out with white dresses, jackets, and more that are extremely prevalent in the fall and winter months each year. Just because it’s after Labor Day doesn’t mean you have to pass up that jacket you found! Pull out your Reach prepaid card, and get ready to dress in white.

2. Black is always slimming.

While black generally has a slimming effect, a piece of clothing is not always necessarily the best choice, simply because it is black. You also need to take into account the cut and style of the fabric. Consider what you are pairing the outfit with, as well. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking that you will certainly look great because the fabric is black.

3. Fit doesn’t matter

This is most definitely not true. No one should be seen as needing to wear baggy or tight clothes, simply because of their body type. In fact, people should find clothes that fit them, and stick with that. A good fit will do wonders for any body type.

Vintage Fashion: Do’s and Don’ts

Everyone loves going down to the local vintage shop or second hand store and searching for those preloved fashionable items. For those of us who has never shopped or worn vintage before there are a few ‘Do’s and Dont’s’.

The Vintage Trends website has more than a few items which you could add to your growing wardrobe, it can also be an asset to the beginner vintage shopper.

Don’t over vintage: Don’t create an outfit purely consisting of vintage clothes. Break it up with a few modern items as well. It will make the vintage piece stand out and look truly unique.

Do go for the simple pieces: A rather simple looking headscarf or shapeless dress could make the corner piece of your vintage wardrobe.

Don’t forget the sizing is different: Vintage sizes are different from today’s so before you rush home with your new dress or pants try them on in the store. It’s always tragic when you get home and it doesn’t fit.

Do alter your pieces: A vintage piece won’t always work as it is, and will sometimes need to be altered. A lot of the time a piece will need to be brought ‘back to life’. An experienced seamstress or tailor will be able to repair them.

Don’t wear incredibly dated clothes: Certain eras in fashion will be always considered classics but don’t over do it. A classic look can be quickly worn out.

However you wear it, as long as it works for you and feels comfortable it is sure to be a hit in your own wardrobe.

Accesories For Spring 2011

With the end of winter just around the corner, and spring fashion week over, many new accessories are coming onto the market. Shoes are a popular trend all year round, and springtime is no difference. Nude peep-toe pumps were the go to shoe at Fashion week this year, and nude colored shoes go well with the bright Vibrant 70s style colors that are popular with spring this season. Nude also works as an office shoe, and also makes your legs look long and sexy.

Nature inspired floral prints were also very popular at fashion week, but if you’re not a fan of head to toe print frocks, accessories are also being remade into works of nature inspired art.Butterflies, greenery, even tree inspired looks are popular this spring and can be anywhere from soft and feminine looking to fierce and bold.

A woman is lost without a good purse, and this spring, the vibrant colors in clothing are transferred to purses like Prada,YSL, and Jill Saunders in shocking pinks and electric blues.While clutches are still around at places like YSL and Prada, the style in purses this season was cross-body open clasp. Weave and Military bags were also in vogue.

Crocheting and knit-prints are making a come-back, so be on the look out for knits, crochets and weaves for anything from scarves and headbands to dresses, skirts and band-jewelry. Speaking of jewlery, big peices that make a bold statement are still at their peak popularity,  with chunky bracelets and big beaded necklaces adding a bit of flair to a bold colored outfit. At Fashion week Chanel set a different standard with thin, fine layers of chains and triple looped strings of pearls, making jewelry classic looking and offering a fun different look on springtime fashion.

Media Influence On Fashion And Style Trends

The media has always had a major say on the fashion industry, from when Marylin Monroe wowed the industry to the “Rachel haircut” from the friends era. Media has had a major stake in fashion trends and has also helped “make or break” several fashion designers. Many Celebrities from movies, magazines and even TV can influence the type of clothing we wear, to how we cut our hair. People want to look sexy and glamorous, so they tend to emulate the style icons they idolize. Some Fashion designers can even say that they got their start by being influenced by greats like Humphrey Bogart and Audrey Hepburn. Sonny and Cher were big style icons back in there day, and the Beatles started a wave of Euro-enhanced fashion that to this day still has a following.

When Charlie’s Angel’s first made it’s debut, Farrah Fawcets waves were a huge hit, inspiring women to feather their hair for years. Even figure skaters inspire fashion looks from the blunt bob of Dorothy Hamel to the wild, fun looks of recent figure skating Olympic star Evan Lysacheck. Elizabeth Taylor was one of the most successful Hollywood stars to produce and sell a signature sent that is still popular with women today. Classic looks that are sexy and glamorous are at the for-front of fashion today, and many women model their looks after it. For example, hit TV show Mad Men has started a 60′s era housewife style craze that has women wearing dresses and pearls with heels to cook, and men wearing suits and slicking back their hair.

Happy Days and the Mary-Tyler-Moore era also inspired looks in their day from leather jackets and hair like the Fonz to dresses with floral prints and aprons. We often want to imitate those who have a better lifestyle than ourselves, and for some people, imitation is the highest form of flattery. Fashion industry has blossomed into even forming it’s own tv shows like “Top Model” or “Project Runway.”
